RE: wish you all the best

I'm just West of Conroe; about 85 miles from the coast.....this thing is gonna come right over the top of us according to the projected path. My TT is at a storage lot, about all I could do was lower the stabilizer jacks and hope for the best. The winds are supposed to still be around the 75MPH range here and I know we'll lose power...........I'll be real happy if that's the worst that happens.
Best of luck to everyone.

RE: tt versus 5er

I wanted my floor plan to be level and to keep the use of my truck bed since I carry an 8' Bass Raider with me and usually a couple of bikes as well. I don't have any trouble towing my rig at all; no white knuckles for me. A 5th wheel doesn't serve my purpose at all.

RE: Need some advice ( a little long)

I got my TT back today and it looks fine. All in all, it could have been done better, but I don't think anyone other than me will ever notice...........I'd have to point it out.
I had them replace the metal with the stock baked on finish and it's a good match, really hard to see any difference. They could have sealed things a little better, but I'm not unhappy overall.
Thanks folks.

RE: Need some advice ( a little long)

My thought exactly Hornet and I asked about the old panel, it's long gone. As for having them make it look like it did, I'm fairly certain they are unable.
I've pretty well resolved myself to the fact that it's not gonna be the same, but (and this was mentioned earlier) I've also decided I'm not going to let it ruin the experience of owning the TT either.
I experienced something similar to this when I bought a mobile home years ago; every time the repair folks came to fix something, it was left worse than before.......I think on this situation I'll just quit while I'm behind and enjoy my Jayco.
This has been kind of frustrating all the way around since I wasn't even around when it happened. Another TT owner was using the space next to mine at the storage to turn his TT around and backed into it......several days went by before I even knew aobut it. I'm glad he was honest and told me, his space is actually 3 down from mine and I'd never have know who did it without him telling me.

RE: Need some advice ( a little long)

Thanks Polishnurse for bringing out the signature info., I never realized I had put the wrong year in there. My trailer is a 2008 year model bought in December of 2007..........it's real new. I don't think fading is an issue since it's so new....probably different batch of metal.
I had pretty well decided to leave it with the original baked finish and not have it painted; just wanted to hear other's opinions.....maybe someone had knowledge I didn't have access to that would have made me decide differently.
I really wish I had left it alone and not been talked into fixing it.........lesson learned, just needed to get affirmation on my decision to leave the original coating with no "matching" paint over it.
Thanks folks, I appreciate the help.

Need some advice ( a little long)

My Jayco was backed into by a fella and the awning was damaged as well as the bottom piece of metal behind the wheel well. The damage to the metal was very minimal, the size of a thumbnail. When I took the trailer to the repair facility, I mentioned leaving the dent if they didn't think they could 100% match it all back up. They said no, it's a new trailer and you deserve to have it look new.........I agreed.
The awning came out okay but the metal was replaced with a piece that was a foot short of making it to the back of the trailer and it left a vertical seam....the color also didn't match. I left with it not paying any attention because I was in a hurry.
I called and took the trailer back and they agreed it wasn't right.
Here's my dilemma. They ordered another piece of metal (they are getting this from the Jayco dealer and I confirmed that with a call to the dealer). The color is wrong again..........it's hard to notice.....I mean the colors are NEAR identical, but not 100%. They want to match the color and paint it. The stock finish is baked on and my concern is that the painted piece will eventually chip and/or peel.
Should I let them paint it or live with the variation in color and leave it stock?

Anyone have experience with Aspen by Frontier RV?

DW and I looked at one today (29RL) that we really liked a lot; perfect floor plan for us and quality seemed to be a notch or two above the Rockwood and Sandpiper models that we looked at.
We've only had our Jayco a few months and know we'll take a hit on it, but it has served it's purpose well and allowed us to get into RVing enough to decide whether or not we like it.............and we love it.
We also looked at another Jayco and liked it as well..........they really build quality units.
Thanks in advance for all replies.

RE: What is considered a 1/2 ton truck.

Brakes are much heavier on 3/4 and up trucks and heavier trucks will usually have transmission coolers, alternators with higher ratings etc... I know a lot of folks here will remember the F-100 Fords....I'm not sure, but I think it was a diet-1/2 ton. LOL I also remember back in the 70s when you had the Chevy/GMC Heavy Half trucks, my dad called 'em 5/8 trucks.....they were usually a 1/2 with an extra spring, but still retained the 5-lug pattern and were otherwise a 1/2 ton.
I think you've figured out what you need to know and most posts to this thread have confirmed your methodology. There are just too many variables in modern vehicles (rear end gear ratios, tires, brakes, engines transmissions etc...) to let a 1500 or 2500 badge decide whether you have the right vehicle.
If I remember correctly, my friend's towing capacity is only 350 lbs. less than mine according to the mfg. specs.....he has a 4WD 1/2 and I have a 2WD 3/4 both Quad Cabs with 5.7 Hemi and both 2005 year model.

RE: 2 or 4 wheeled tote

Mine's a 2-wheeler with the detachable arm, I pull it with my TV. My tanks are 40 gallons and the tote is 22. I don't have to use it a lot, I never use it for black tank waste. Mine rides in the rear storage under the bunk bed.

RE: Tire pressure-Let some air out?

Don't fill the tires over what they're rated for. Sometimes people buy tires that are different than what came on a vehicle even though they look identical...........Michelin LTX M/S comes to mind because they have 6 or 10 plys in the same tire but the load range and pressures are different..........go with what the tire has written on it for a max cold psi and don't exceed what's on the door panel either way because wheels vary as well.
As far as temps go, I've been taught that a cold psi reading should be taken before the tire has moved and only after it's sat still for 4 or more hours.............one thing is for sure, if you drive your tires under-inflated in high temps, you're begging for a failure.
Our safety meeting this month (I drive a tractor/trailer for a living) was about tire performance.
At any rate, the readings will be higher after the tire has been driven on (even for a short distance) and that shouldn't concern you as long as you're confident the cold PSI is good.

RE: Playing the Banjo in the Campground

I love banjo! I'm going to a Bluegrass festival this weekend. I play guitar, UB, pedal steel and noodle around with other instruments as well. I take my guitar, but I play inside.......I'm the guy that went for the peace and quiet and I try real hard not to make much noise. Here I am on my Tele
I like my music loud when I'm working in the group, but not when I'm at the CG.

RE: Pickup truck ratings for RV towing.

I don't know that I could add anything other than to agree with Skip on a couple of points: my Dodge 2500 with Hemi gets 7to10 MPG depending on wind direction (it gets 18 to 21 empty) and terrain has little effect on overall performance. I drive a truck for a living and in a professional or personal setting my main concern is not whether or not I can get a load moving; it's whether or not I can stop it. I could be wrong, but I think along with beefed up tranny coolers, upgraded brakes are also part of a towing package and I'd get it on anything I bought.

RE: Alcohol in PA state parks

Well said Dennis Smith. What kills me is dogs and music. I don't wanna hear 'em. I take my dog camping but he doesn't bark, I won't allow it. I play music for a living and I like it loud...........in the right place, when I'm in a park I don't even turn my music on. As far as kids making noise and running around; that's what kids do and that's part of the fun of camping, letting them cut loose. I never would allow my kids to act the way a lot of folks do, for fear of them being a nuisance to someone else.
I think a good many people are just too selfish these days; their good time is all that matters to them.

RE: bought new jayco jayflight 26bh

We have a lot of fun in ours; it really suits our needs and was affordable enough to allow us to get into travel trailering with a quality unit and not be discouraged from the activity by quality control or financial issues. It's our first, but sure won't be our last.
I hope yours is as enjoyable.
